Middle. Words that come to mind: Average, lukewarm, unsuccessful, etc…and so on. Why does “middle” have such a negative connotation? In our culture today individuality is praised; therefore, compassion and empathy for others are far too often near the wayside.
Hear me out. I’m not criticizing YOU, and the last thing I would want anyone to feel when encountering me is judged. The simple observation that WE are not doing enough as a culture, as a generation, is evermore enhancing the awareness in me that what I’m doing, my one good deed for the day, isn’t enough; we can always do more.
So rather than fretting about being the wittiest on twitter, wearing something on “trend,” letting our own voice be heard, why don’t we try to speak on behalf of others? Speak for those whose voices aren’t heard. Ironically, our fear of being lost in the crowd virtually comes to pass when our mind is set on “I,” for so is the majority of others’.
Let’s not worry about standing out. Let’s be one with one another. This may sound like “hippie bullshit” to some, but so be it! We all have this one life. We are all in this together. Let’s remind ourselves that it is okay to get lost in the crowd, because the crowd is beautiful. The crowd is filled with all of you, and I can tell you one thing…I like the view ;)
If you're looking for me I'll be sporting my midi dress, "...right in the fucking middle," of everyone else.
